Terms of Use

2. Scope
These terms govern the use of the Barangoló mobile app (the “app”). By downloading and using the app you accept them. How personal data is handled is described in the Privacy Policy.
3. The service
The app is a hiking map of the Carpathian Basin that works without an internet connection. Map regions must be downloaded in advance; this needs an internet connection and may incur data charges on a mobile network.
The map, region downloads, search, place cards, route planning, GPX import and export, and up to three saved routes are free. Following a route (navigation) and more than three saved routes are part of the Trail supporter membership (section 5). The app may show ads, occasionally including a full-screen ad (after downloading a region or saving a route).
No registration is needed. We may develop, change or discontinue the app and the downloadable maps. If the service ends, we stop subscriptions from renewing. Maps already downloaded and saved routes remain usable on the device if the service ends.
4. Safety and map accuracy
A planned route follows the paths in the map data, so it may lead along sections that are impassable, closed or on private land. While you follow a route, the app alerts you when you leave it, when the waymark changes and when you arrive — but an alert may be late or missing (for example with a weak satellite signal, a low battery, the system’s battery saving or notifications turned off), so do not rely on it alone. Following with the screen off drains the battery faster.
Opening hours, phone numbers, websites and other details on a place’s card also come from OpenStreetMap and may be out of date. The “Call” and “Website” buttons open your phone’s dialer or browser; we are not responsible for the party called or the content of the website opened.
5. Trail supporter membership and one-off tips
Trail supporter membership (subscription)
The Trail supporter (“Ösvénytámogató”) membership is an automatically renewing subscription, with a monthly or a yearly plan. While it is active it gives you:
- navigation along a route: following a route, with the screen off too, with alerts when you leave the route, when the waymark changes and when you arrive;
- unlimited saved routes (up to three without it, planned and imported routes counted together);
- no ads.
Free trial. The store may offer a 14-day free trial on the yearly plan. It is available once per store account; the store decides whether you are eligible, and the app shows the trial only when the store offers it. At the end of the trial the subscription automatically becomes paid at the yearly price unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends.
Renewal and cancellation. The subscription renews automatically at the end of each period and the store charges you, unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends in your store account’s subscription settings (the app’s “Manage subscription” button takes you there). After cancelling, the benefits remain until the end of the period already paid for. You can switch between the monthly and the yearly plan in the store.
When the membership ends, your saved routes stay: you can open, edit and export them, but you cannot start following a route, you can save a new route only while you have fewer than three, and ads may return.
The membership can be restored on another device or after reinstalling with the same store account (“Restore purchases”). Without an internet connection the app relies on the store’s last answer, so the membership keeps working on the trail. If the store cannot be reached and has not yet confirmed the membership, the membership features are unavailable.
One-off tips
With a one-off tip (e.g. “Coffee for the developer”, “Trail blaze”, “Mountain supporter”) you can voluntarily contribute to development. After a tip the app shows no ads on the device you paid on; it unlocks no other feature. Because the store keeps no restorable record of a one-off tip, this cannot be carried over to a new device or after reinstalling.
Prices and payment
The price comes from the store and is shown before you pay. Payment is handled entirely by Google Play or the Apple App Store under their own terms; we never see card details. The store notifies you in advance of any change to the subscription price, under its own rules.
6. Withdrawal and refunds
The membership and one-off tips are digital content whose performance (unlocking the membership features, or removing the ads) begins immediately after payment. By expressly agreeing to this, a consumer loses the 14-day right of withdrawal (EU Directive 2011/83/EU, Art. 16(m)). Refunds can be requested under the store’s own rules:
- Google Play: request a refund
- App Store: reportaproblem.apple.com
After a refund, the membership benefits end and ads may return. This section does not limit your statutory consumer rights (for example, in case of defective performance).
7. Intellectual property and licences
The app’s software, design and text belong to the provider.
- Map data: © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database License (ODbL).
- Terrain: Copernicus DEM GLO-30 © DLR e.V. 2010–2014 and © Airbus Defence and Space GmbH 2014–2018, provided under the European Union’s Copernicus programme.
- Licences of the open-source components used are listed in the app’s menu under “Licences”.
8. Liability
The app is provided “as is”. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for damage arising from gaps in the map data, inaccurate positioning, a planned route, a missed or late alert, service outages or use of the app. This does not limit liability for intentional acts or gross negligence, or for breaches that harm life, body or health.
9. Prohibited use
You may not misuse or overload the app or the download server, reverse-engineer the app (except where the law allows it), or download the map files in bulk by automated means.
10. Complaints
Questions and complaints can be sent to barangoloapp@gmail.com; we answer within 30 days. Consumers in Hungary may also turn to the conciliation board of their place of residence (in Budapest: Budapesti Békéltető Testület).
11. Governing law, changes
These terms are governed by Hungarian law; this does not deprive consumers of the protection of the mandatory consumer-protection rules of their country of residence. We may change these terms; the updated version is published on this page with its effective date. Continuing to use the app means accepting the updated terms.
The Hungarian version of this document is authoritative.
